Policeman’s Helmet (Impatiens glandulifera)
Another noxious weed you may already have in your yard is Policeman’s Helmet. It is a Class B noxious weed which grows in moist shady habitats, particularly along streams and wetlands.
Policeman’s Helmet is currently on Washington State’s plant quarantine list, sale and distribution are prohibited.
This ornamental plant has been a gardener’s favorite due to its large unique flowers. Policeman’s Helmet is known to contribute to increased flooding and erosion. There are many great substitutes that a gardener can use instead of this troublesome noxious weed.
